Rene, owner of R&Y Garage Door Repair, handles many of the company’s TorqueMaster calls himself. His explanation for homeowners is simple: with a regular torsion spring, a technician can see the break. With TorqueMaster, the spring is hidden inside the tube, so the diagnosis comes from how the door behaves.
That is also why he recommends checking two things before deciding: the condition of the cable drums at each end, and the age of the door. When the drums or the tube are worn, a conversion to standard torsion springs is usually the longer-lasting fix, because standard parts are easier to find and to service later.
His safety advice is the same on every call: if the door suddenly feels heavy, stop using the opener and leave the door closed until a technician checks it.
